9-1-1 Dispatch from Gahanna, Ohio

MECC Amateur Radio Club

Emergency communications is a varied field. Many of our MECC operators are licensed as Amateur Radio Operators. This radio hobby has been around for years, with the heritage of supplying emergency communications when all the other normal channels fail.

In the spirit of public service, we’ve formed the MECC Amateur Radio Club, operating with a club callsign of W8MEC.  As we progress, we plan to install ‘Ham Radio’ gear at the MECC for more participation in emergency events. Currently, we participate in the Central Ohio Severe Weather Net. We’ve participated in events such as the Pickerington Winter Run, where emergency requirements from the ARES Ham Radio communicators for that event could go right to our dispatch center.
